In 1986 the Netherlands was the first European country where farmers were obligated by law to cover their manure silo for environmental reasons. In the last 25 years more than 14.000 silos have been covered in the Netherlands.

In 2007 the Danish government approved legislations to cover almost all the manure silos. Since 2012 also legislation for the covering of manure silos has come into existence in Germany. Many countries are expected to follow.
